Special Interests First, Parents & Students Last

Learn about the Lansing Democrats putting their donors ahead of parents and students

When leaders in Lansing have to choose between what's best for Michigan families or special interest groups, we know which Democrats will put parents and students last every time: Jaime Churches, Nate Shannon, and Denise Mentzer.

These three have weakened student reading standards and teacher evaluations, eliminating accountability in the classroom and costing parents control over the quality of their child’s education.

But wait, there’s more! If these three have their way, they’d make it easier for major donors to fill their coffers, and they would use your tax dollars to subsidize union dues.

“Michigan families need allies in Lansing,” said Zach Rudat, on behalf of Michigan Freedom Network. “Instead, they’re stuck with folks who take marching orders from their donors at the expense of children’s learning success. It’s up to Michigan voters to ensure these elected officials pay the price before our kids do.”

Jaime Churches

Jaime is all about allies! She co-sponsored a bill (now law) that takes funding away from education and hands it out to her friends.  They can pay it forward (in practically unlimited amounts) by giving it back to her campaign. Plus, she’ll use tax dollars to reimburse union dues. She’s got to keep those allies happy!

Nate Shannon

Nate loves to make changes! He repealed reading standards for 3rd graders, pushing students through the system even if teachers fail to prepare them for the future. Teacher evaluations no longer include student test scores either, thanks to Nate. The cherry on top of all this? Shannon also repealed the state school performance grades, leaving more parents and taxpayers in the dark about their children's education.

Denise Mentzer

Denise co-sponsored two notable bills recently. The first bill could allow the notorious Oxford shooter to be back out on the streets in just 10 years! Many dangerous juveniles like him would be up for parole after serving only a decade of their sentence. On the lighter side, she also supported a bill to ensure her allies could contribute a nearly unlimited amount to her campaign.
